The theme of Fire Prevention Week this year is “Don’t Wait – Check the Date! Replace Smoke Alarms Every 10 Years.” Learn useful information about smoke alarms and fire prevention at the annual Fuquay-Varina Fire Department Open House hosted at Fire Station #1.
The Fuquay-Varina Fire Department participates every year in National Fire Prevention Week (Oct. 9-15) to help educate the public about fire safety and prevention.
At the open house, parents and children can learn about fire safety by visiting displays, demonstrations, viewing safety videos, touring the station, and taking a peek inside all the fire equipment on display. Kids will also enjoy games, activities, a bouncy house and giant slide, face painting and visits from Sparky the Fire Dog, Pluggie the Hydrant, and Smoky the Bear.
As a fundraiser, the Explorer Post will be selling popcorn and water and Kona Ice will sell shaved ice. Proceeds from both will be used to fund participation in the annual firefighter competition held in Gatlinburg in February 2017.
